Lesson 11: The Respiratory System (page 18 of 19)

All of the above. For respiratory problems, essential oils are used in diffusion, massage, in the bath, and inhalation.

What About Children?

The products mentioned above are also appropriate for children. A few of the products mentioned come as a liquid herbal extract—great for children as well as adults. These include the key product for the respiratory system, ALJ; the immune system product Echinacea/Golden Seal; and of course Lobelia Essence.

Older children can use CleanStart, however the dosage should be cut in half. Younger children will probably not need a cleanse, but it is imperative that they get enough fiber in the diet, which few children do, and it is extremely important to supplement with the beneficial flora. For children who can not swallow capsules there is a special chewable probiotic called Probiotic Power(great for adults too.)

Children with respiratory problems should also be encouraged to eat an uncooked apple every day. Not only does this provide much needed fiber, apples also contain special antioxidants that are particularly beneficial for the respiratory system. A medical research study recently found that children who ate at least five uncooked apples every week suffered from significantly fewer respiratory problems, including asthma.

Another chewable product for children that supports both the immune system and the respiratory system is Children’s Chewable Elderberry Immune. Elderberry (Sambucus nigra), which is also great for adults (see Elderberry Defense), strengthens the immune system, especially helping in the battle against viruses such as the cold and flu. It also helps bronchial inflammation and aids the expectoration of bronchial mucus. Research has demonstrated its effectiveness for ear, sinus and throat infections; as well as for the flu.

A medical research study recently found that children who ate at least five of these (uncooked) every week suffered from significantly fewer respiratory problems, including asthma:
